Improvements to the paths up to Montjuïc and extension of the Font Trobada allotments

23/02/2023 - 02:02h

Poble-sec | Montjuïc. The projects to realise these two citizen initiatives will be explained on Monday, 27 February at 6 pm at the El Sortidor Civic Centre.

The improvements to the paths that lead up to Montjuïc from Poble-sec and the extension of the Font Trobada allotments, along with the construction of a new environmental classroom, are two projects to be realised soon on the same side of the mountain. They started as local resident initiatives presented to the Neighbourhood Plan and the Participatory Budgets, respectively. The projects to realise these initiatives will be explained on Monday, 27 February at 6 pm at the El Sortidor Civic Centre.

Mums and dads of pupils from Tres Pins and Bosc de Montjuïc primary schools, presented the proposal to the Participatory Budgets toimprove these paths to facilitate communication between the Poble-sec urban centre and the different facilities there are on the mountain. They asked for new lighting and reforms to the rest areas such as the one at the Palmera fountain. They also requested that the Joan Prats gardens play area next to Marcelino bar, which is used by the pupils when they come out of school, be revamped. Improvements to the access to Montjuïc’s Escola Bosc from Av. Miramar are already under way with the intervention programmed as part of the Protegim les Escoles initiative.

TheHort de la Font TrobadaAssociation, which is taking part in the development of the Poble-sec Neighbourhood Plan, has also been working on the project toextend the allotments, which includes building an environmental classroom in the same area as the Joan Prats gardens. Above where the Font Trobada allotments currently reach, a further 1,200 m² of land will be reclaimed, which will mean the creation of 60 to 70 new 3 x 1.5 m plots. Both the allotments and the new environmental classroom will be community managed and activated by the neighbourhood’s eco-environmental organisations. In fact, the Poble-sec Environmental Classroom has been up and running for some time in an itinerant form, and joining it this year is the Barcelona Environmental Facilities Network (XEAB).

The two master projects are ready to be presented on Monday, together with the schedule for the building work that is going to be carried out. Those promoting the initiatives will also explain how the projects have evolved and those in attendance can ask any questions they want.
